Alliance Water Resources has been awarded the “Above and Beyond Award” from the Missouri committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve organization. Carl Kindermann, PWSD #2 of St. Charles County water plant operator and member of the Army Reserve, nominated the company in response to the support he feels the organization has provided him and his family.

The “Above and Beyond Award” was created “to reward employers who go above and beyond what [the 1994 Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act] requires from an employer in support of military employees” according to the organization\'s website, www.esgr.org.

Kindermann joined Alliance in 2001 as a maintenance worker and rose to the position of crew foreman. He left the company in 2003 and was sent to Iraq with his Army Reserve unit in 2005. Even though he was no longer an Alliance employee, care packages collected from former coworkers at the company\'s PWSD #2 of St. Charles County division were sent to him in Iraq.

When it was time to return to a “regular” workplace, Kindermann chose to seek employment at Alliance, rather than return to the job offered to him by his then-employer. In June 2006, he re-joined the Alliance Water Resources team as water plant operator.

And when a shoulder injury suffered during his time in Iraq required time off for surgery, the company again demonstrated its support, prompting Kindermann to make the award nomination. PWSD #2 System Manager Tim Geraghty will join Kindermann at the Missouri ESGR Committee\'s annual awards dinner in Rocheport, Mo., on August 3 to accept the award.
