Project Management Expands Services

Alliance Water Resources is now offering a new service: complete project management. Existing contract clients can now bring Alliance expertise to utility and public works projects in their community, separately from their current Alliance agreement. And communities that do not currently contract with Alliance can choose complete project management services as an alternative or preview to a long-term operations agreement.

The addition of a project management position is in recognition of the needs of both clients and non-clients. “If a community cannot afford to keep a dedicated licensed engineer on staff, they should consider limited-term project management,” says Dick Tuttle, director of operations for Alliance Water Resources. “Major capital improvement projects are a huge investment for cities and districts. A project management specialist gets the most out of that investment by maximizing efficiency and ensuring quality. They have only the owner’s best interest at heart.”

The company has selected Professional Engineer Dan Gummersheimer to serve in the newly created position of project manager. Gummersheimer will be responsible for overseeing community projects from conception to completion, and manage all aspects of planning and budgeting while overseeing design and construction. Other duties include assisting with consultant selection, contractor bid awards, contract management and project closeout.

Now that he’s added his project management experience to the menu of water, wastewater and public works know-how at Alliance Water Resources, Gummersheimer says he is looking forward to acting as owner’s representative for cities or districts. “My job is to make sure the owner is delivered their project as specified in the contract plans, so they can avoid costly surprises and possible conflicts of interest.”

Gummersheimer worked previously as senior project manager for the Cross County MetroLink Extension in St. Louis and served on the safety certification review committee there. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois and is a registered professional engineer in Missouri. Gummersheimer earned both a master of business administration degree and a graduate certificate in project management from DeVry University in St. Louis. He lives in St. Louis, Mo., with his wife Donna and will be based in St. Charles County.
